Every window we ship is built around the Rehau Total 70 profile. Here's what that actually means — and why we picked it over the alternatives.
Rehau is a German polymer-engineering company founded in 1948, headquartered in Muri, Switzerland, with UK operations based in Ross-on-Wye. They are one of the largest window-profile manufacturers in Europe, supplying profile extrusions to window fabricators across 50+ countries. In the UK specifically, Rehau profile is fitted to roughly one in three new-build homes.
Rehau is not a window brand — they are a profile brand. They supply the raw extruded uPVC sections (frames, sashes, beading, transoms, cills). Fabricators like our UK manufacturing partner cut, weld, glaze, and hardware-fit these sections into finished windows.
Rehau makes several profile ranges. We use Total 70 because it's the best-balanced system in the UK domestic retrofit market — strong thermal performance, high security capability, competitive price, and universally available service parts.
| Specification | Rehau Total 70 |
|---|---|
| Frame depth | 70mm |
| Chamber count (outer frame) | 5 |
| Chamber count (sash) | 5 |
| Gasket seals | Dual EPDM rubber (co-extruded) |
| Steel reinforcement | Galvanised steel insert in outer frame + sash |
| Compliance standard | BS EN 12608 (weather performance) |
| Security rating | PAS 24 compliant when fitted with approved hardware |
| Colour stability | RAL approved white — lifetime colour fast |
| Recyclability | 100% recyclable via Rehau's closed-loop programme |
"Five-chamber" doesn't mean five air pockets you can see. It refers to the internal structure of the profile cross-section — five separate cavities inside the frame that each do different jobs:
Each extra chamber costs Rehau more to extrude. Cheaper 3-chamber systems exist but they buckle more easily and have worse U-values. Our buying guide has the wider context on profile choice.
When the Total 70 profile is combined with a standard 28mm argon-filled low-E sealed unit (which is what we ship), the whole-window U-value is approximately 1.2 to 1.3 W/m²K depending on window size. Smaller windows have a slightly worse U-value because the frame-to-glass ratio is higher.
This comfortably clears the Part L minimum of 1.4 W/m²K for replacement windows in England and Wales. It also qualifies for A+ energy rating under the Window Energy Rating (WER) scheme.
Rehau Total 70 is a PAS 24 tested system when fitted with compliant hardware. PAS 24 is the British Standards-published test for resistance to opportunistic forced entry — the same specification required for new-build windows under Part Q of the Building Regulations.
Our windows are fitted with:
There are four profile systems you'll commonly encounter when shopping for uPVC windows in the UK:
| System | Origin | Chambers | Depth | Typical U-value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rehau Total 70 | Germany | 5 | 70mm | 1.2 W/m²K |
| VEKA Matrix 70 | Germany | 5 | 70mm | 1.3 W/m²K |
| Deceuninck 2500 | Belgium | 6 | 70mm | 1.2 W/m²K |
| Eurocell Logik | UK | 4-5 | 70mm | 1.3 W/m²K |
| Liniar EnergyPlus | UK | 6 | 70mm | 1.2 W/m²K |
All five are legitimate, Building Regs-compliant systems. The main differences are:
The honest answer: at the domestic retrofit level, the difference between any of these top-tier 70mm 5/6-chamber systems is small. We picked Rehau because the supply chain is the most reliable and the residual value on the house (should you sell) is higher with a named German brand on the frame.
We provide a 10-year manufacturer guarantee on frame integrity and the sealed double-glazed unit, backed by Rehau's own profile warranty. Hardware (handles, hinges, locks) is covered for 1 year against manufacturing defect.
If a sealed unit misting occurs within the 10-year window, we'll replace the glazed unit at no cost — you just need the original order reference.
Rehau profile is 100% recyclable and Rehau operates a closed-loop recycling scheme in the UK. Old uPVC windows from your existing installation can be collected by most fitters and sent back through the Rehau recycling channel — the recycled material is re-extruded into internal reinforcement cores for new profile.
Rehau holds ISO 14001 (environmental management) and has published lifecycle carbon data showing roughly a 3-year carbon payback period for replacement uPVC windows versus leaving old single-glazed or aluminium frames in place.
Is Rehau Total 70 the same as Total 80?
No. Total 80 is Rehau's 80mm 6-chamber premium range — higher thermal performance (U-values around 1.0 W/m²K) but 15–25% more expensive. For most UK homes the Total 70 hits the sweet spot. Call us if you have a Passivhaus or deep-retrofit project and need Total 80 specified.
Can I get Total 70 in a colour other than white?
Yes, though not on our online configurator. Anthracite Grey, Rosewood, Golden Oak and Chartwell Green are all available on custom quote — typically 3-4 week lead time and a 15-25% price uplift. Call 0800 861 1450.
Where is my window actually manufactured?
The Rehau profile extrusions come from Rehau's UK factory in Amlwch, Anglesey. Cutting, welding and glazing is done by our UK partner factory in Greater London. So every window is both Rehau and British-made.
Is there a lifetime guarantee?
Our 10-year guarantee covers what actually tends to fail (the sealed unit and frame integrity). Rehau's own profile warranty extends up to 20 years for colour fastness and structural integrity. "Lifetime guarantees" offered by some competitors usually have so many conditions they amount to 5-10 years of real coverage — we prefer to be specific.
