Frequently Asked Questions

Everything our customers ask before and after placing an order. Cannot find what you need? Call 0800 861 1450 or email info@glazingquoter.co.uk.

Products & Specification

Are your windows made to measure?

Yes. Every window is manufactured to your exact width and height in millimetres. Nothing is pre-made or taken from stock. Lead time is approximately 10 to 14 working days from payment to delivery.

What profile system do you use?

All our windows use the Rehau Total 70 profile system — a 5-chamber, 70mm frame depth German uPVC system with internal beading and multi-point locking as standard. See our buying guide for why profile choice matters.

Are the windows A-rated for energy?

Yes. Every window is A+ energy rated as standard, with a whole-window U-value below the 1.4 W/m²K limit set by Building Regulations Part L for replacement windows in England and Wales.

Do you include trickle vents?

Yes, trickle vents are fitted as standard into the top of every window. This meets the June 2022 update to Approved Document Part F which requires background ventilation on replacement windows in habitable rooms.

What is the minimum and maximum window size?

Minimum varies by style but generally 400mm wide x 400mm tall. Maximum sizes run up to 2400mm wide (for wide 2- and 3-light configurations) and 2400mm tall (for tall top hung with transom). Each style's range is shown on its configurator page.

What if my size falls between the 100mm grid?

The supplier price matrix is in 100mm increments so we round your size up to the next cell for pricing. The window is manufactured to your exact figure, not the rounded figure.

How do I read the window diagrams? Why do they look different when I imagine standing inside?

All our diagrams follow UK trade convention and are drawn viewed from outside the property. A window labelled "Side Hung Left" has its hinges on the LEFT when you're standing outside looking at the house. If you walk into the room and look back out, those exact same hinges are now on your RIGHT — same window, same hinges, flipped perspective. The configurator and the bifold page both have a "Viewed from outside / View from inside" toggle you can click to flip the diagram and check you're seeing what you expect. On your order confirmation and the supplier spec we state both viewpoints explicitly so there's no ambiguity at the factory.

Is the white a pure white?

Yes, all frames are supplied in standard white Rehau uPVC which is a clean modern white, close to RAL 9016.

Can I have the windows in a colour other than white?

Our online range is white only to keep pricing transparent. Coloured and foiled finishes (Anthracite Grey, Rosewood, Golden Oak) are available on custom quote — typically a 3-4 week lead time and 15-25% uplift. Call to discuss.

What handle colours can I choose?

White (standard), gold or chrome — no price uplift for any of them. Selected in the configurator.

Glass & Safety Glazing

What glass types are available?

Clear (standard), obscure (+10% for bathrooms and privacy), and toughened (+15% for safety glazing within 800mm of floor level or next to doors). Obscure and toughened can be combined.

When do I need toughened safety glass?

Approved Document Part N of the Building Regulations requires toughened or laminated glass in any pane within 800mm of finished floor level, or within 300mm of a door edge up to 1500mm from the floor. This covers most ground-floor bathroom, patio-adjacent and low-level windows. Our glass and glazing guide covers Part N in full.

Are the windows PAS 24 certified?

The Rehau Total 70 system is tested to PAS 24 when fitted to specification. Our windows ship with the required multi-point locks and shoot-bolts. If you need a signed PAS 24 certificate for a specific installation (typically for insurance or new-build sign-off), let us know at order time.

Pricing & Payment

Can I pay by card?

Yes — we accept all major debit and credit cards through PayPal's secure checkout. You do not need a PayPal account. Orders over £2,000 can be paid by bank transfer if preferred — call us to arrange.

Is my card data safe?

Card details never touch our server. Payment is processed entirely by PayPal under their PCI-DSS Level 1 compliance. We only receive a confirmation that the payment cleared.

Do you supply trade customers?

Yes. If you are a joiner, builder or developer ordering 10+ windows regularly, email info@glazingquoter.co.uk with your company details and a recent order volume estimate. We can set up a trade account with credit terms.

Delivery & Collection

How much does delivery cost?

Kerbside delivery to England and Wales is £69 flat, or free on orders over £1,450. Scotland is £179. The Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland, Isle of Wight and Isle of Man need a manual quote. Free collection is always available from our depot in West London (UB7 7HQ). Full zones on the delivery page.

What is the lead time?

Approximately 10 to 14 working days from the point payment clears. This covers manufacturing, quality check and transit. We do not hold stock: every window is built to your measurements after you order.

Do you deliver to Scotland?

Yes — mainland Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle area) is £179 by pallet courier. The Scottish Highlands and Islands (IV, KW, PH, HS, ZE postcodes) need a manual quote because palletised glass into those areas is priced individually — call 0800 861 1450.

Do you deliver to Northern Ireland?

Yes, but we quote manually for BT postcodes because sea freight pricing changes regularly. Call 0800 861 1450 with your postcode and dimensions and we will come back with a quote the same day.

What happens if a window is damaged in transit?

Visible transit damage must be signed for as damaged at the point of delivery, and reported to us within 24 hours with photos. We will replace at no cost. Concealed damage (discovered after unwrapping) must be reported within 24 hours of delivery — see our returns policy.

Installation & Regulations

Do you install the windows?

No — we are a supply-only business. This is why our prices are a fraction of supply-and-fit national brands. You can use your own installer, a local joiner or fit the windows yourself if you are confident.

Will the windows come with fitting instructions?

Yes. Every order ships with a basic fitting sheet covering removal of the old window, packing the new frame, using expanding foam and silicone sealing. A competent DIYer or any builder will be able to follow it.

Do I need planning permission to replace windows?

For like-for-like replacement in most homes, no — it falls under Permitted Development. Listed buildings and homes in Conservation Areas usually require consent. Check with your Local Planning Authority if you are unsure. You will still need Building Regulations compliance, which modern A+ rated windows with trickle vents satisfy.

Measuring, Returns & Aftercare

What if I measure the windows incorrectly?

Because windows are manufactured to your figures, incorrect measurements are the customer's responsibility. We strongly recommend reading our measurement guide and having a second person check the figures before ordering. Builders typically allow 10mm tolerance inside the brick opening for fitting.

Can I return a window if I change my mind?

Made-to-measure windows are exempt from the standard 14-day consumer returns window under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Once a window is manufactured to your dimensions, we cannot resell it. We will always rectify genuine manufacturing defects under the 10-year guarantee.

Do the windows come with a guarantee?

Yes — a 10-year manufacturer guarantee covering frame integrity and the sealed double-glazed unit. Hardware (handles, hinges, locks) is covered for 1 year. The guarantee runs from delivery date.

Are the frames recyclable?

Yes. Rehau profile is 100% recyclable and Rehau operates a closed-loop recycling programme in the UK. Old windows can be taken to any uPVC recycling facility or collected by most fitters on a replacement job.
