Yorkshire's distinctive stone terraces use different window openings than the brick-built equivalents further south. Stone lintels and sills are unforgiving — the brick-to-brick opening is often exactly what's documented on the original plans with minimal tolerance. Measure twice minimum before ordering. Our Side Hung and narrow 2-light configurations are the most common replacements.
Unique to Yorkshire/Lancashire industrial housing — 19th century workers' housing with windows only on the front elevation. Narrow openings typically 700-900mm wide. Our Single Side Hung and Top Hung styles cover all common sizes at £150-250 per window supply only.
Yorkshire 1920s-30s semi belt — often with distinctive bay window features and stained-glass panels in transoms that were original features. Modern uPVC replacement with Top Hung transoms above fixed lights reads similarly to the original sash-and-transom proportions.
Yorkshire's mill heritage villages have some of the tightest window openings in UK housing — 600-900mm wide typical. Many of these villages are Conservation Areas — Saltaire is a UNESCO World Heritage site with strict window rules. Check with the Parish Council / Conservation Officer before ordering.
Rural Yorkshire stone property often has mullioned stone-framed windows original to the 17th-19th century. These are almost always unsuitable for uPVC retrofit — the original openings are load-bearing and any modern replacement requires timber or aluminium to maintain structural integrity. Call us if you have a rural stone property and we'll advise.
